We hope you can be there!

PLEASE keep the nursery renovation needs in mind when contemplating memorial designations, acknowledging special birthdays and anniversaries, and thank offerings. Simply earmark your check “Nursery.”

FIRST ENGLISH in Dorset will hold an Ascension service with communion on Thursday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

SENIOR RECOGNITION: Please join us between services today in the social hall as we recognize and honor our high school graduates. Our graduates are: Emilee Borders, Janesa Felt, Miles Harju, Jackson Hensel, Nicole Kramer, Tristin Persons and Olivia Ulvin.

TODAY’S SUNDAY SCHOOL lesson is, “Jesus Heals Jairus’s Daughter.” Just as Jesus by word and touch raised the dead girl to life, so by His Word and Sacraments, He kills and buries death and raises us to eternal life. Questions for discussion include, “How did Jesus heal this little girl? How does Jesus heal us from the sickness of sin?”

BEING RECEIVED into God’s family through Holy Baptism this morning after the 10:30 a.m. service is Erwin Lawrence Komppa, infant son of Frank and Megan (Yliniemi) Komppa. “See this wonder in the making: God Himself this child taking as a lamb safe in His keeping, His to be awake or sleeping.”

OUR CHRISTIAN LOVE and sympathy is extended to Barb Buck and family as they mourn the passing of her mother, Berrnice Willers. We pray that our Lord Jesus Christ will give them peace and rest form their sorrow.

THE CHILDREN’S CHOIR will present a mini concert today between services in the social hall. They’ll be performing a selection of their favorite songs. There will be a special recognition of choir members who are moving on to confirmation next year. Come and enjoy!

TODAY’S SUNDAY SCHOOL lesson is, “Jesus Calms the Storm.” Just as Jesus calmed the storm with His Word for the frightened disciples, He calms and ends the storm of sin and death by taking our sin upon Himself and dying in our place so we may live eternally. Ask, “What did Jesus do to calm the storm? How does Jesus calm the storms in our life?”

ABC PRESCHOOL has had a busy year. Now it is time for those children heading for Kindergarten to “graduate” at a special program on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. The younger class will celebrate the year end with a program on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Thank you to our teachers, helpers and volunteers who work so hard to make the program great!

ST. JOHNS LUTHERAN in Akeley will be showing a free movie “Let There Be Light” on Friday, May 17, at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. There will be popcorn and a beverage. Note: This event has been canceled.

HEARTLAND HOMES is hosting their annual turkey and ham dinner fundraiser on Friday, May 17, from 4:30-7:00 p.m. There will also be a silent auction. Heartland Homes was started over 41 years ago by citizens of the community to provide services that empower persons with disabilities to live the best life possible. Please take time to attend and enjoy the great food, festive atmosphere and music provided by “Count 20.” Donations may also be sent to Heartland Homes, Inc., PO Box 214, Park Rapids, MN 56470.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Mary Hutter will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. here at St. Johns. Mary passed away in January in Arizona.

THE CLASSIC CHORALE will present their spring concert, “We Remember: Musical Stories of Tragedy to Triumph” here at St. Johns today at 3:00 p.m. The concert is free but donations are appreciated. Refreshments are served after the concert. Come and enjoy a great concert! 

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE SERVICE - A celebration of all nurses - will be held on Monday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. here at St. Johns. A light meal will be served after the service. For meal planning purposes, please RSVP to Lisa Rice at 218-616-3345.

ALL LADIES are invited to attend Our Savior’s Church in Crookston on May 18 at 9:00 a.m. for the leadership training on how to speak about Jesus easier with others. A $10 registration fee will be taken to cover cost of the event.

SHOES will be collected for Lutheran Island Camp. Bring your old shoes in before May 11 to be delivered to the LWML leadership training event. 

A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Mary Hutter will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. here at St. Johns.

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, St. Paul (CSO) invites you to volunteer for “A Minnesota Lumberjack Experience.” From July 10-15, CSP will be hosting nearly 10,000 youth and leaders for District Events during the National Youth Gathering.
