TODAY IN SUNDAY SCHOOL the children learn about Jesus teaching the Pharisee Nicodemus under the cover of night. Since the fall into sin, all are born spiritually blind, sinful, and unclean. We are like Nicodemus and cannot see our sin or understand who Jesus truly is for us. As children of God, born of water and the Spirit, we can see our sinfulness and the salvation that is ours in Jesus Christ. Discuss with your children, “How did Baptism change you? What does Baptism do?”

BLOOD DRIVE: We are hosting the March blood drive here at St. Johns tomorrow, 1:15-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Patients need blood every day for treatments, surgeries, and emergencies. There is a HUGE need for blood so please consider donating.

MARCH is the Minnesota Food Share Campaign. St. Johns is helping to raise food items and dollars for our local families. Each week in March please bring in different items for the food shelf. There’s a collection table in the narthex. This week is Be a Sweetheart Week. Bring in items that can be shared in a sweet way...cake mixes, frosting, pancake mix, muffin or bread mixes, etc. Next week we will be hosting a “Noisy Offering” during Coffee Fellowship to collect cash for Local Food Shelves. THE BOARD OF EVANGELISM sends out a huge thank you to the participants, table sponsors, and other donors of last Sunday’s Trivia event. You generously assisted in raising $1,786 to be used for the proposed nursery renovations here at St. Johns. We are so grateful!

A MONTHLY young adult Bible study will begin on March 18 at the Newton’s home (19616 End of the Day Dr.) at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be provided. This Bible study is geared toward those out of high school to under 40.

A WEEKLY Tuesday morning Bible study for high school students is held on Tuesday mornings. We meet at the Great Northern at 6:45 a.m. Talk to Pastor Newton for details.

OUR LENTEN SERVICES continue on Wednesday. The noon service will be followed with a lunch by the Ladies Aid. Scalloped potatoes and ham will be served at 5:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 6:00 p.m. This week Pastor David Walsh from Redeemer, Menahga and Christ, Wolf Lake will preach on “Prayer and Fasting.”

ON THURSDAY, MARCH 21, at 5:00 p.m. high school students are welcome at the Newtons for throwback video games. We’ll have supper and play Mario until 8:00 p.m.

KITCHEN RENOVATION needs are being evaluated and discussed. Watch for updates in the church newsletter. Questions or concerns? YOUTH in grades 5-12 will be going to Three Bears Water Park in Brainerd on Sunday, March 24. We’ll meet at church at noon and be back at about 7:30 p.m. Cost is $5 per person, which includes food, transportation, and admission.

JOIN The Guiding Star Project for special viewings of the movie, Unplanned, the real life story of Abby Johnson, one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, until the day she saw something that changed everything, leading Abby to become one of the most ardent pro-life speakers in America. The Guiding Star Project is hosting two showings at the Lakes 12 Theater in Baxter on Thursday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, March 31 at 3:00 p.m. Seating begins ½ hour before the show, with an optional opportunity for discussion after the movie. TODAY’S SUNDAY SCHOOL lesson is “Jesus Clears the Temple.” Jesus’ cleansing of the temple carries a twofold message for the Jews and for us: first, that the true Lord of the temple was here in the flesh, and second and more important, that Jesus is the true temple, who houses and perfects us, raising our bodies to be like His. Parents could ask, “Why did Jesus clear the temple? How is Jesus our temple?”

LOUIS BLOCKER from Lutheran Island Camp will be joining us today for the Registration Jamboree. Ask Louis any questions you might have about camp, drop off your registrations, or simply stop by to say hi.” We hope that a large group of children from our congregation will sign up today. Our congregation has scholarships available. Anyone registering today will receive a special gift from Lutheran Island Camp.

TRIVIA! Today at 4:00 p.m. in the social hall. All proceeds will go toward renovations for the nursery. Spectators are welcome! A BBQ supper will be served at $5 a plate.

Pastor Newton will show the video from his descent into the icy waters of Lutheran Island Camp, along with a few brave youth on Sunday, March 24. Keeping with the spirit of all things icy, the Fellowship Board will serve ice cream floats. Plan to join us!

TODAY’S SUNDAY SCHOOL lesson is “Jesus Changes Water into Wine” at the wedding in Cana. Through His first miracle, Jesus revealed Himself to be true God. God uses His Word and physical means–water, bread, and wine–to reveal to us that Jesus is our Savior. Discuss the story with your children: “How are we like the disciples, not sure just who Jesus is? How do we sometimes doubt Him and His Word?”

Wild rice soup will be served by the Youth at 5:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 6:00 p.m. This week Pastor Neubauer will preach on “Blessed Are You.”

THE LADIES AID will meet on Thursday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m. Sarah Newton will lead the topic and roll call is a memory of school days.

NEXT SUNDAY we will be holding our Lutheran Island Camp Registration Jamboree. The theme this year at camp is “Forgiven.” Every week and weekend at camp will have opportunities for children and families to grow in their faith through the forgiveness won for us in Jesus Christ. Those children that register next Sunday will receive a special gift from Lutheran Island Camp.

DON’T FORGET to assemble your trivia team (2-8 members) for March 10. If you wish to sponsor a team without playing, please leave your check with Ginny in the church office. All proceeds from this event will go toward renovations for the nursery. You may want to refresh your memory on (or become newly acquainted with) the movie “Gone with the Wind.”

IN TODAY’S SUNDAY SCHOOL lesson the children studied the calling of Jesus’ first disciples with “Jesus Calls Philip and Nathanael.” You might discuss, “How did Philip and Nathanael know that Jesus was the Christ? How do we learn that Jesus is the Christ?”

IF YOU SIGNED UP for coffee, please recheck the schedule as one of the sheets went missing before we could update the changes so we need to start over. Please make sure you check it today and make any changes because we will be setting up the new schedule and mailing it out this week.

A VBS planning meeting will be held today after the 10:30 a.m. service in the library.

THE “LUNCH BUNCH” will meet at West Forty on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. All widows and widowers are welcome to join them.

THANK YOU for the cards and prayers our family received at the passing of my mom. Thank you also to Pastors Neubauer and Newton for visiting mom at The Cottages and attending her funeral. THE NURSERY committee will be organizing and cleaning out the storage closet in the nursery this Wednesday. If you have any items in the closet that you specifically need saved, please let one of the committee members - Ann Endorf, Laurie Schmidt, Michele Werder, Connie Fondow - know.

POLAR PLUNGE pledges will be taken between services in the lobby. On Saturday, March 2, Pastor Newton and some of the youth will jump into the frozen East Battle Lake at Lutheran Island Camp to raise money for the 2019 National Youth Gathering. 

BLOOD PRESSURES will be taken next Sunday between services in the church office.

BLOOD DRIVE: We are hosting the March blood drive here at St. Johns on Monday, March 18, 1:15-6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, March 19, 8:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Patients need blood every day for treatments, surgeries, and emergencies. OUR CHRISTIAN LOVE and sympathy is extended to Terry and Sandy Phillips as they mourn the loss of her mother, Charlene Schmid. We pray that our Lord would give them peace and rest from their sorrow.

POLAR PLUNGE pledges will be taken between services in the lobby. On Saturday, March 2, Pastor Newton, Dominik Backmann and Keegan Moses will jump into the frozen Battle Lake at Lutheran Island Camp to raise money for the 2019 National Youth Gathering.
